    Retired Japanese-American businessman and and an active civic leader

    Mr. Dozono is a prominent and longtime leader in the Portland, Oregon business and nonprofit communities. He has served on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America, Providence Health & Services, Japanese Ancestral Society of Portland, and New Portland Foundation, as well as on Portland State University’s Board of Trustees. He is the former president of the Portland Japanese American Citizens League and former chair of the Spirit Mountain Community Fund Board of Trustees, the Oregon League of Minority Voters, United Way, and the Portland Oregon Visitors Association.

    Ms. Vasquez-Stickley is a community advocate and owner of MS Consulting. She is board chair for SW Washington League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Foundation and vice chair for Clark County Public Health Advisory Council, SW Washington Accountability/Community Health (SWACH). She formerly served on the boards of HOPE Dementia Support and the Oregon Gerontological Association.

    Mr. Goud has more than fifteen years’ experience in the financial services industry, with a focus on compliance and values-based finance with a diverse international perspective across the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. In addition to serving as Chief Compliance Officer of Marquam Capital, Mr. Goud is a global expert in Islamic and other values-based areas of finance. He has a particular interest in exploring the intersection of Islamic and sustainable, responsible and impact investing which he pursues in his role as CEO of the RFI Foundation, C.I.C. He graduated from Reed College with a B.A. in Economics.

  • Wajdi Said

    Wajdi Said

    President, Muslim Educational Trust

    Since coming from Yemen to the U.S. in 1988, Mr. Said has worked with the Muslim community as well as the larger community to promote a better understanding of Islam. He has been involved in numerous interfaith committees and panels throughout the years. He is one of the founders of the Interfaith Council of Greater Portland, an organization which came together as a result of 9/11, as well as one of the founders of the Arab, Jewish Muslim Dialogue, The Institute for Christian Muslim Understanding, Islamic Social Services of Oregon State, and the Beloved Community Coalition. Mr. Said is a commissioner with the City of Portland New Portlander Policy Commission, and serves on the board of Neighborhood House, Portland State University Middle East Studies Center, and the Arab and Muslim Police Advisory Board. Mr. Said has spoken at countless colleges, high schools, organizations and churches, promoting a better understanding of Islam and Muslims.

    When Mr. Catalani was a child, he and his family arrived in the U.S. as political refugees from Indonesia. His experience includes serving as Program Coordinator for City of Portland, New Portlander Programs, where he provides education on human migrations and facilitates newcomer community development partnerships with City of Portland Bureaus. He also serves as Attorney & Counsel for NW Communities Counsel, where he provides consulting and training on immigrant integration, developing newcomer communities, and increasing organizational capacity to integrate immigrant clients and communities toward a shared future. Mr. Catalani holds degrees from Oregon State University and the University of Oregon, and earned his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law. His areas of expertise include international human rights and humanitarian relief, U.S. immigrant and refugee resettlement, and state and local immigrant and ethnic minority integration. He is a Senior Contributing Editor of The Asian Reporter, contributor to The Oregonian and Oregon Public Radio, and author.

  • Dr. Juwairyah Syed

    Dr. Juwairyah Syed

    Director of Curriculum and STEM Program at the Muslim Educational Trust

    Dr. Syed is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied Molecular Biology and Human Genetics and Education. She was raised in Saudi Arabia and Virginia and is of Pakistani descent. Her lifelong mission is to instill an appreciation and love of STEM education in her students, particularly her female students. Juwairyah, along with her twin sister, Nowairah Syed, is the co-founder of Project Imagination Education, a nonprofit that brings STEM education to young women in Pakistan. When Juwairyah is not teaching robotics or science, she enjoys traveling. She has visited over 90 countries and hopes to visit all 195 one day.

    Rania Elnaggar is an Egyptian American Muslim Immigrant mother and a Silicon Valley technology leader. Rania, her husband and two sons are longtime members of the Portland community since 2004. 

    Rania firmly believes that fostering and integrating diversity is the engine of innovation ushering prosperity of humankind. Her background, travels, and career experience have shaped her balanced ideology of Islamic purpose, global citizenship, and inclusivity. Over her more than two decades technology career, Rania held leadership positions in Egyptian cabinet information center, UNESCO , Intel, and Google. Rania believes in supporting local entrepreneurs; she is a venture partner in Oregon Venture Fund. Rania is active in community leadership and serves on the boards of directors of New Portland Foundation and Afghan Community and Cultural Organization.

    Rania holds a BS in Electrical Engineering, MS in Computer Engineering, and MBA in international Business. Rania and her husband love the outdoors and are avid hikers who traversed numerous trails in the Pacific Northwest, across the US, and Europe. When not outdoors, Rania enjoys reading and has amassed a well-curated book collection.

  • Hector Hinojosa

    Hector Hinojosa

    Civil rights organizer and community advocate

    Mr. Hinojosa is a retired former migrant seasonal farmworker. Originally from Mexico, he learned English as a second language, earned his GED, and is a Job Corps graduate.

    Hector is a National Associate Member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). He was a Co-Founder of Centro Cultural & Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center (VGMHC) and currently serves as VIP Member & Advisor to the Interfaith Library.

    Hector was recognized by the Mexican Consulate with the Ohtli Award. The Ohtli Award, derived from the Nahuatl word meaning “path,” is the highest recognition awarded by the Mexican Government to members of the community in the United States who have contributed in an exceptional manner to the development of the Mexican community living abroad.

  • Jawad Khan

    Jawad Khan

    Chief Program Officer at the Muslim Educational Trust

    Mr. Khan is the Chief Programming Officer for Muslim Educational Trust (MET) and a member of MET's Board of Directors. He was born in Houston, Texas, to Indian immigrant parents. He has spent 21 years with MET as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator. He has delivered workshops about Islam and about combating Islamophobia to numerous colleges, schools, government agencies, and nonprofits.

    Before joining MET, Jawad worked in the high-tech industry including Kavi Corporation, before starting his own startup, AI Graphics, with classmates from college. He holds degrees in Business Administration and Economics from Portland State University and currently resides in Beaverton, Oregon.

    Mr. Oyler has experience working in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, providing a broad range of human resource, team building, and overall strategic direction, including in the areas of affirmative action, inclusion, and compensation. He currently also serves as Director of Communications, Portland Metro Area for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
